NATIONAL MILLS WEEKEND

National Mills Weekend is a celebration of the UK’s milling heritage held on the second weekend of May each year. The weekend is organised by the Mills Section of the SPAB. As many wind and water mills as are able open on one or both of the two days of the weekend.

This is a great opportunity to visit and look round your local mill.
For thses two days we are offering the public FREE entry to the mill in addition to the following acticities.

Furness Beekeepers apiary, located at the mill, will be open for public access with experienced beekeepers on hand to answer your questions. You will have a chance to  put on a bee suit and get up close to the action, but if you do, make sure you wear trousers which will tuck in to your socks, or preferably bring wellies

Furness Amateur Radio Society (FARS) will be operating an amateur radio station (call sign GB2GW) and contacting many other mills 'on air' across the UK and Europe as well as other amateurs.
You are welcome to come and see the operation.

Mon 11th to Sun 16th is COELIAC Awareness Week.

Coeliac disease is an autoimmune disease, where the body's immune system attacks its own tissues.
In people with coeliac disease this immune reaction is triggered by gluten, a  protein found in the cereals wheat, rye and barley. A few people are also sensitive to oats.
1 in 100 people are affected by this disease.

Dusty Miller's Tea Shop caters for coeliac's by providing a wide range of gluten free starters, main courses, sweets and cakes.
They are holding a special coffee morning on Friday 16th which is attended by the local coeliac support group who can offer friendy support and advice.
